Mt. Washington School's 75th Anniversary Celebration
At the opening
ceremonies, there were visitors on the stage with
Principal Debra Klein. Superintendent of Cincinnati
Public Schools Rosa Blackwell was there along with
Vice Mayor of Cincinnati, David Crowley, three former
principals, Tom Steinmetz, Harold Herms, and Gerald
Porter, and student speaker Shauna Bennett of the
current 8th grade. Mr. Crowley read a proclamation
from Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory making May 8 Mt.
Washington School Day, and Shauna Bennett spoke about
her memories of the school.
After the speeches, people were free to attend the
events and activities which included a plant sale in
the library just in time for Mothers' Day, a Raffle
and a Silent Auction both held in the gym, autograph
signing by Ron Oester of the Cincinnati Reds, tables
from Beech Acres and Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, a
drawing contest, face and hand painting, temporary
tattoos, refreshments including an Anniversary Cake,
and demonstrations by the students in the Aerospace
program. For background, all the walls of the first
floor were decorated with art projects of students in
Mr. Hale's art classes. There was also a memory wall
with photographs, newspaper clippings, and class
pictures from previous years.
Many thanks go the the hard-working organizers of the
event from out PTO and faculty. They all worked hard
to make the event a success.
